The object of the iFLINK project is to renew air quality monitoring in Norwegian municipalities.

The project is developing and establishing a novel infrastructure for environmental monitoring in Norwegian municipalities to handle and quality assure data from large air quality sensor networks. This network does not only encompass the official monitoring stations, but also low-cost micro sensors that can be placed at many different places in a city. This will provide a better overview of the real-time pollution situation over the whole city.

Within iFLINK we will apply machine learning to develop good calibration methods to improve the data quality of low-cost sensors and to enable the application of these data in developing new downstream services. iFLINK results can be used by all those who wish to develop real time services connected to air quality, climate change and noise pollution.

The project is developed and carried out together with the five Norwegian municipalities Oslo, Bergen, Bærum, Drammen and Kristiansand. Later it will also be possible for other municipalities or private persons to connect their micro sensors to the iFLINK infrastructure.

iFLINK is a research and innovation project for innovative administration of air quality and environment in Norwegian municipalities. The project receives support from the Norwegian Research Council and lasts from 2018-2021.
